Hi there. I noticed your game is written in Lua! My first question is: what game engine do you use? I've seen a lot of games written in Lua that are on steam, but I can never seem to find a good engine. (Or did you write your own native wrapper?) And secondly, as it is written in Lua, do you have a problem with me modding your game? Thanks.
Spacebase DF-9 is built on the open-source Moai engine, which we also used in Middle Manager of Justice, Dropchord, and the upcoming Broken Age. We’ve put a lot of additional work into it, including creating an internal development tool called 2HB—our IDE/debugger. For Spacebase we also added a lot of features, including support for 3D characters (the game’s environments are 2D and characters are 3D) and our lighting system.
We have no problem with you modding the game! For a variety of reasons, mainly including our own development bandwidth, we didn’t ship the game with standalone mod tools, but we also haven’t made any attempt to lock off the game to modders. Go for it!
